\nAIDS is a sexually transmitted disease and transmitted through sexual act. AIDS stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. It is caused by Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV). The virus destroys white blood cells which results in the loss of resistance against infections. It is a fatal disease.
\nSpreading<\/strong>
\nIt spreads through transfer of body fluid such as blood and semen. Cause: Main causes are:
\ni) Unprotected sexual activities.
\nii) Use of infected needles.
\niii) Transfusion of infected needles.
\nRole of National AID control programme (NACP) and Non-Government organizations (NGOs) <\/strong>
\nPakistan Federal Ministry of health established NACP in 1987. The main objective of this programme is to help the public for the prevention of HIV transmission. The frequency of HIV infection in Pakistan is low but still at risk. For improvement, NACP started services through TV and radio channels and print media in 2005. The objective are:
