Smoking <\/span>is <\/span>harmful <\/span>due <\/span>to <\/span>the <\/span>chemicals <\/span>in <\/span>cigarettes <\/span>and <\/span>smoke.<\/span><\/p>\n

Number <\/b>of <\/b>chemicals <\/b>in <\/b>cigarette <\/b>smoke\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Tobacco <\/span>smoke <\/span>contains <\/span>over <\/span>4000 <\/span>different <\/span>chemicals<\/span>, <\/span>out <\/span>of <\/span>which <\/span>at <\/span>least <\/span>50 <\/span>are carcinogens <\/span>and <\/span>many <\/span>are <\/span>poisonous<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Smoking <\/span>not <\/span>only <\/span>produces <\/span>lung <\/span>cancer <\/span>but <\/span>also <\/span>produces <\/span>a <\/span>number <\/span>of <\/span>life <\/span>threatening <\/span>diseases <\/span>like<\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n

Many <\/span>chemicals <\/span>in <\/span>tobacco <\/span>smoke <\/span>damage <\/span>the <\/span>air <\/span>passageway<\/span>, <\/span>which <\/span>leads <\/span>to <\/span>emphysema <\/span>and <\/span>other <\/span>respiratory <\/span>disorders<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Other <\/b>effects <\/b>of <\/b>smok<\/b>ing <\/b><\/p>\n

(<\/b>a<\/b>)<\/b>Re<\/b>du<\/b>ction <\/b>in <\/b>t<\/b>he <\/b>oxyg<\/b>en <\/b>carrying <\/b>ca<\/b>pa<\/b>city\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

It <\/span>has <\/span>effects <\/span>on <\/span>the <\/span>circulatory <\/span>system<\/span>. <\/span>The <\/span>carbon <\/span>monoxide <\/span>present <\/span>in <\/span>tobacco <\/span>smoke <\/span>lessens <\/span>the <\/span>oxygen <\/span>carrying <\/span>capacity of <\/span>hemoglobin<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

(<\/b>b<\/b>) <\/b>In<\/b>crease in <\/b>the <\/b>production <\/b>of <\/b>platelets\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Many <\/span>other <\/span>chemicals <\/span>in <\/span>smoke <\/span>increase <\/span>the <\/span>production <\/span>of <\/span>blood <\/span>platelets<\/span>. <\/span>When <\/span>platelets <\/span>are <\/span>more <\/span>than <\/span>the <\/span>normal <\/span>numbers<\/span>, <\/span>they <\/span>make <\/span>the <\/span>blood <\/span>viscous <\/span>and <\/span>it <\/span>can <\/span>lead <\/span>to <\/span>arteriosclerosis<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

(<\/b>c<\/b>) <\/b>Risk <\/b>of <\/b>tube<\/b>rculosis <\/b>and <\/b>pneumonia\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Smokers <\/span>a<\/span>r<\/span>e <\/span>at <\/span>greater <\/span>risk <\/span>of <\/span>developing <\/span>infections<\/span>, <\/span>particularly <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>lungs <\/span>like <\/span>risk <\/span>of <\/span>tuberculosis <\/span>increases <\/span>by <\/span>two <\/span>to <\/span>four <\/span>times<\/span>, <\/span>and <\/span>of <\/span>pneumonia <\/span>by <\/span>four <\/span>times<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Smoking <\/span>is <\/span>responsible <\/span>for <\/span>weakening <\/span>and <\/span>staining <\/span>the <\/span>teeth<\/span>. <\/span>Tooth <\/span>loss <\/span>is <\/span>2 <\/span>to <\/span>3 <\/span>times <\/span>higher <\/span>in <\/span>smokers <\/span>than <\/span>in <\/span>non<\/span>–<\/span>smokers<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

(<\/b>e<\/b>) <\/b>Effect <\/b>on <\/b>social <\/b>l<\/b>ife <\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Smoking also affects the social life of a person. Smokers may face social unacceptance because other people may not want to be exposed to other’s smoke.<\/p>\n

(<\/b>f<\/b>) <\/b>Increase <\/b>in <\/b>the <\/b>rate <\/b>of <\/b>heart <\/b>disease<\/b>s <\/b>an<\/b>d cancer <\/b>in <\/b>non<\/b>–<\/b>smokers\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Non<\/span>–<\/span>smokers <\/span>who <\/span>are <\/span>exposed <\/span>to <\/span>second<\/span>–<\/span>hand <\/span>smoke <\/span>at <\/span>home <\/span>or <\/span>work <\/span>increase <\/span>their <\/span>heart <\/span>disease <\/span>risk <\/span>by <\/span>25<\/span>–<\/span>30 <\/span>and <\/span>their <\/span>lung <\/span>cancer <\/span>risk <\/span>by <\/span>20<\/span>–<\/span>30<\/span>%<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
